34. The Shepherd

THE SHEPHERD shows a whelpling gatherer, sitting and listening from the position of the skeptic.  There can be all the noise and static around her, but unless her brood is all present and accounted for, the rest is of little concern.  When THE SHEPHERD is present, the Querent is encouraged to examine their community for any shortcomings that need to be addressed before legitimate progress can be made.  Bring people back into your fold who have been more removed from the situation, appeal to their opinions and sensibilities, and make an inclusive decision or action list based on the unique talents and skills present in the whole group.  This is not a time to be hurtful with your words or explanations; it is a time to make sure your message is tailored so those in the most need of hearing it will pay attention and lean on your wisdom.

This card is part of the AUTUMN Suit in the Woven Wisdom Oracle, which notes lessons from the empowered voices in the twilight of life, who have lived experience. How can we learn from others strengths, or shortcomings?

Could relate to: taking charge, examining a newer initiative with a familiar group of people, family planning meetings.

Key Questions:

  • How do I make my concerns for this situation known in a way that will be heard?

  • Am I being inclusive in my planning?  Are there people my plans affect that it would be beneficial to bring on board?

  • What are three ways I can work to improve the community or process in this situation?

  • What are hard boundaries and expectations that need to be (re)established in this communal space?
